My Kids Almost Gave Me A Heart Attack!

Well, I exaggerate...but my heart did stop for a millisecond or two...or three... when I opened the bedroom door.  The 2 younger children had been scurrying about upstairs...making a mess of the room as usual.  But I have to say, this one was quite brilliant.

At least they chose a benevolently smiling face. :-)

Hours later, it still gives me a start seeing a human figure where none is supposed to be!

Plaques On Poles

In my little walks around town, I came across these hand-made plaques stuck on power poles.  They are wooden boards with pieces of shiny plastic jewels and beads stuck on them and some sort of message too...like "Halifax and Titanic are memorable to us."

This one was at the corner of Cogswell and North Park, which I saw about two weeks ago.

Found this yesterday on Rainnie Drive.

"Your interest in these items that I make is appreciated.  I trust they shall brighten up your day and outlook."

I am not sure what they are for....but I love 'em!  Makes Halifax the interesting city that it is.  And to the person who made them, your work is appreciated!  Thank you for brightening up my day.

Sunday Walk

Sunday had such great weather that we took a little walk along the hiking trail at the back of our house.

I saw these little plants beginning to grow out of the ground.  I have no idea what these are but they sure look funny!

Img_3038

These look like fiddleheads.  Sometimes, the supermarket sells the bigger versions...but I have no idea how they are prepared!

Spring Is Here

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I take more walks around town.  Spring is finally here.  The trees are not lush yet but the grass is already green.  (Inside the Public Gardens.)

The forsythia are blooming... (Summer Street, looking inside the Public Gardens.)

...and so are the magnolias.  (Outside St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Oxford Street.)

This last one has nothing to do with spring.  (^_^)  I just like windows...they are like the eyes of a house.  This window has probably seen a lot through the years.  (Somewhere on Robie Street?)

Tough Choice

Snack time!  Honestly, it was a difficult decision.  See, they were the crispy, crunchy, sweet & salty all-natural whole grain Kettlecorn popcorn...no trans fat... no cholesterol... no gluten... no preservatives... no GMO corn...   ...and did I mention they were lightly caramelized?  ...and it said "Satisfaction Guaranteed" right there on the package.  How could plain old strawberries possibly compete, eh?

Birthday Plans

My birthday isn't till next month yet but some in our family are good planners... :-)

11yo son: "Daddy, I have the perfect birthday gift for you!"

 Yours truly: "What?"

11yo son: "For your birthday, I will take you to see The Avengers movie."

Oooh, I love that twinkle in his eye when he said that!
But in fact, I grew up with Marvel comics...and it is not a bad idea, really!

Shop Log: How Many Tic-Tacs?

Shop's Log.  Halifax NS.  March 31st, Saturday, 15:57.
Weather: Cloudy, 7°C.

I am on my fifth Tic-Tac but it's not working...!

Today was the opening day sale of this new pita joint a few blocks from the shop.  Everything half-priced!  Never really able to resist a good deal when I saw one, I snuck out and got myself a "Shawarma Chicken Pita"...to go.  I was busily chomping on my snack in the shop's back room when my wife came in with a grimace.  Unbeknownst to the perpetrator, the back room had taken on the air of a Middle Eastern restaurant.  Though I love garlic and onions, such aroma just wouldn't do for the shop.  Thank goodness we sell incense!

And me...I am loading up on the Tic-Tacs...in vain.

Note to self: Avoid exotic sounding foods when snacking in the shop.  Procure Listerine!
